We’ve been taught to see anxiety as something broken. That it is something to fight, manage, or get rid of. It's even labeled a disorder. And once something is labeled a disorder, we tend to treat it like an enemy.
But here’s the truth: when you go into battle with anxiety, you actually become more vulnerable.
Why? Because fear sells.
And when you're scared, you're easier to manipulate.
If you struggle with high anxiety, you’ve probably come to believe that you’re weak or like something is wrong with you. You may think you’re not strong, like others, or too sensitive. When you believe this, much like a wounded animal in the wild, you become prey to stronger forces.
But anxiety is not someone else’s tool to control you. It’s your own internal signal trying to protect you, not punish you.
Let’s break it down:
Anxiety shows up when you don’t feel safe.
When you don’t feel safe, you can’t think clearly.
When you can’t think clearly, your body goes into survival mode.
And when you're in survival mode, you’re more likely to be manipulated, controlled, or abused.
As a therapist, I began to question the way we typically respond and treat anxiety. So I tried something different.
Instead of focusing on coping skills to silence it, I invited my clients to see anxiety as a trusted ally. We stopped fighting. We got curious. We listened.
And something beautiful happened.
Little by little, anxiety transformed from a loud, overwhelming force into a quiet, wise guide. As clients began to understand what their anxiety was trying to say, their bodies and nervous systems started to trust them again.
They didn’t need saving anymore.
They found strength they didn’t know they had. They stopped seeing themselves as broken. They stopped waiting for someone else to rescue them.
And most importantly, they began saving themselves.
That’s when I realized something big: The loudest messages out there are the ones telling you that you're powerless, broken, or in need of fixing. They are the very messages that keep anxiety stuck in your body.
These messages breed self-doubt, self-abandonment, and more anxiety.
But when you realize that your power isn’t outside of you, that it’s been within you all along, everything shifts.
No more self-doubt. No more abandoning yourself. Just connection, healing, and freedom.
My experiment worked, and it can work for you too.
